ADA 25 FOR 25 CULTURAL ACCESS PROJECT
Remy Bumppo Theatre Company’s is participating in the ADA 25 for 25 Cultural Access Project with the goal of becoming fully accessible to patrons with disabilities. The first step towards full accessibility is the offering of audio described performances and touch tours for each of their productions in their 2015/2016 season. Remy Bumppo will also provide program participants with Playbills in the format of their choosing; braille, large print, or audio recording.
In May, staff members attended an audio described performance at Steppenwolf Theatre as volunteers, in order to gain hands-on experience. By mid-summer 2015, Remy Bumppo will form and train their core AD/TT volunteers who will aid patrons on the day of performances. The first AD/TT performance is scheduled for Saturday, October 17, 2015. The AD/TT performances will continue into the 2016/2017 season, and will be refined based on patron feedback from the 2015/2016 season. Long term, Remy Bumppo envisions providing ADA accessible seating, AD/TT performances, assisted listening devices, open captioning performances, and ASL interpreted performances.
