In March of 2016, two new fitness centers will be installed at Amundsen and Piotrowski Parks in Chicago. This will compliment a comprehensive accessible fitness center downtown and a smaller center at Douglas Park. The goal is to improve health of the disability community by bringing more fitness opportunities to the neighborhoods. The Chicago Park District, together with the Chicago Parks Foundation and the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities initiated efforts to plan and construct a fully accessible playground in Chicago that is fully usable to both parents and children with disabilities. This work will carry into 2016.
